It caused hanging wires between Koedoespoort and Eersterust, deeming it too dangerous for trains to be on their tracks.

Spokesperson for Metrorail in Gauteng Tony Games says hanging wires will be removed to clear the line in time for the afternoon peak.

"Hanging wires pose a serious threat to the safety of the infrastructure, personnel, commuters and trains that are supposed to run on the line,” says Games.

Metrorail  Acting Provincial Manager, Jackie Moshe advised commuters to seek alternative transport.

"We call on commuters to work with Metrorail and Police by ensuring that these perpetrators are reported to the authorities.

We invite the public to play an important role in protecting and preserving public assets belonging to them," says Moshe.

The Pienaarspoort – Pretoria line is the only Passenger Rail Agency (PRASA) service in Gauteng so far approved to be providing a train service during lockdown.

However, since the line was re-opened last week, it has been plagued by various disruptions.
