Nobody is homeless after Lawley demolitions' - Makhubo
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
Johannesburg Mayor Geoff Makhubo says nobody has been left homeless after the notorious Red Ants demolished over 80 shacks in Lawley, south of Johannesburg.

He was speaking at the launch of a handwashing campaign at an informal settlement, east of the city on Wednesday.
"We evicted nobody, all we did was counter illegal acts of land invasions,” he said.
“The sad part is that the syndicates who sell the property that is not theirs to the poor are preying on the vulnerable and the poor, so we will never allow such criminality to happen."

He reiterated that most of the demolished shacks were vacant and that those who need permanent shelter must go onto housing waiting list.
"Throughout the city, it does not matter where if you invade land we are going to deal with you. How can we allow land invasions during the lockdown and not act? We have to act."
