North West mother in court for child neglect, attempted murder

A 21-year-old woman, who faces charges of attempted murder and child neglect, was denied bail in the Bloemhof Magistrate’s Court on Monday, North West police said in a statement.
Major Pelonomi Makau said the case against the woman was postponed to January 6.
The woman allegedly gave birth to a baby boy on December 22. She was discharged from the hospital on Christmas Eve, December 24.
On the same day that she was discharged from hospital, her grandmother phoned the police to report that the three-day-old baby was missing, Makau said.
The police interviewed the mother and she took the police to an open veld where the baby was found abandoned in shrubs with only a nappy on.
“The baby is still in hospital receiving medical treatment. He had no injuries,” said Major Makau.
