A 17-year old learner from Ramotshere Technical High School near Dinokana outside Zeerust allegedly killed teacher, Gadimang Mokolobate, in full view of other learners busy writing their exam paper.

Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga, is appalled at the incident.

According to the department's Elijah Mhlanga, police believe the motive behind the attack to involve an incident where the said learner skipped the queue for the school's feeding scheme.

Psycho-social services have been deployed to the school to provide counselling to the learners.

Mhlanga says the learner was arrested by police on Thursday.

The South African National Civic Organisation has reacted with shock at the incident, calling on law enforcement to ensure the learner faces the full might of the law.

"Extraordinary measures must be taken to empower teachers to deal with despicable and atrocious acts that are threatening their safety and that of other learners," says the organisation's Paul Sebegoe.
