‘Nothing new’ in Makhura address

Opposition parties in Gauteng have lashed what they claim to be a lack of new ideas in Premier David Makhura’s State of the Province Address.

Makhura delivered his three-hour address at the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University in Ga-Rankuwa on Tuesday.

Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng caucus leader Solly Msimanga labelled Makhura’s speech as predictable.

“Well, as predictable as Ntate Makhura as I said yesterday (Monday), it was going to be same old same old.

“We have the rehashing of old plans under the new guise of vision growing Gauteng 2030. The things we heard here we heard ten years ago,” he said.

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) deputy chairperson in Gauteng Itani Mukwevho also accused the premier of merely repeating what he said in 2019.

Mukwevho adds that the red berets are not satisfied with the manner in which Makhura dealt with the rapid land release program.

“Where we are now, he spoke about the land rapid release program. The issue which we want to raise as the EFF is where and when he is going to implement that program. Our people should know where this will happen so that it can happen quickly,” he said.

Makhura announced that the Gauteng government has adopted the land invasion prevention strategy aimed at dealing with the scourge of land invasions in the province.

The EFF is adamant that Gauteng resident will continue to occupy land.
