NSFAS reopens second application period

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has reopened the second application window to matriculants who require financial assistance to further their education.

Applications for students who wish to study at TVET colleges will open from the 09 January 2017 and close on 14 February 2017.


Applications for students who wish to study at universities will open from 09 January 2017 and close on 20 January 2017.


NSFAS spokesperson Kagisho Mamabolo says they thought the second application window would give matriculants who secured space at university and colleges and opportunity to get their financial assistance in order for 2017.


"This is the first time NSFAS centralised its application system and universities and colleges no longer have the responsibility of awarding financial assistance," says Mamabolo.


Mamabolo says over 370 000 application have been received for 2017.


"We do anticipate that by the time we close this window, 400 000 applications will have been received. This includes online and manual application" says Mamabolo.
