NSRI calls in additional resources for flood-hit Gauteng

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) has called in additional resources for flood-hit Gauteng.
Heavy rainfall caused havoc in large parts of the province this week, leaving a trail of destruction on Friday.
The subsequent flooding affected thousands of people in areas including Soweto, Lenasia, Randburg, and Roodepoort.
In Kliptown, Soweto, alone, 80 people were rescued and dozens of houses flooded.
"We had to respond to people entrapped in their cars and homes and also missing people reported related to the flooding, to date emergency services have dealt with at least 150 rescue operations,” said NSIR spokesperson, Craig Lambinon.
“The NSRI are going to boost our resources with neighbouring NSRI stations,“ he said, noting that the operations are ongoing.
The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has urged motorists and pedestrians to avoid areas which suffered damage or remain under water due to the storms.
