NUM founding president suggests National General Council following elections
Updated | By Samkelo Maseko
The debate around the ANC holding a special national conference is intensifying.

Founding President of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) James Motlatsi, however, says this won't aid the party.
Motlatsi has urged the NUM to instead approach the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) and call for a National General Council.
Motlatsi said a Special National Conference will further divide the ANC after its dismal performance at the polls.
He said the ANC must discuss the issues affecting the party at the National General Council.
Motlatsi believes some must be asked to resign voluntarily, because of the damage they have done to the party.
"I don't think it's the right decision, because the delegates who will go to that conference will only go there to focus on one item; who to remove and replace by who. That's all. I don't believe this movement is about elections," he said.
He said they should look at why the alliance lost support.
"Is it because of corruption? Is it because of poor service delivery? It is if because of arrogance?" Motlatsi asked.
