ANC discussing possibility of an early elective conference
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
The ANC's Secretary General, Gwede Mantashe, says the possibility of convening an early elective conference is being discussed by various structures in the ruling party.
The party's Youth League has called for an early conference, after the ANC lost support in the recent Local Government Elections.
The ANC lost control of three big metros; Tshwane, Johannesburg and Nelson Mandela Bay.
Mantashe says the party needs to decide what the objective of an early conference would be.
"If you have an early conference, do we go to that early conference with the aim of consolidating or do we go to an conference and we fight it out and then it's just blood on the floor - unless there is a discussion clearly of 'yes, early conference, what is the objective, how do we manage the process'. It is not a bad idea. It's actually being discussed in various structures," he said.
