The National Union of Mineworkers has shied away from giving its stance on the political future of President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The union says it is still studying the report released by the independent panel earlier this week.

Ramaphosa has been under fire since June, when former spy boss Arthur Fraser filed a complaint with the police, alleging the president had hidden a burglary at his farm at Phala Phala from the authorities.

The panel found that the president may have violated the constitution and his oath of office.

NUM briefed the media in Polokwane on Friday ahead of its 40th anniversary celebration set to take place at Peter Mokaba stadium in Limpopo on Saturday.

NUM deputy general-secretary Mpho Phakedi also addressed the issue of the parole granted to Janusz Walus by the Constitutional Copurt.

Phakedi said the union disappointed at the decision to grant parole to Chris Hani’s killer.

He said while they respect the rule of law, Walus' case should be treated differently.

"It is our view that Chris Hani has fought for this country, and we cannot accept that a foreigner from Poland will come here and kill one of our heroes."
