Number of unplaced learners in Gauteng drastically reduced

The Gauteng Department of Education says only 2 865 learners, whose parents applied online, still needs to be placed in schools.

Gauteng Education spokesperson Oupa Bodibe says at the same time, there are still parents who are submitting late applications. This number has increased to 18 327.


"Of the people that applied late, 9 651 learners are placed. This brings total number of learners placed in January 2017 to 65 651," says Bodibe.

Bodibe says districts and schools remain in close contact to follow-up on queries from parents of unplaced learners. 


"We are encouraged by the work of our district officials working in 62 operations centres. We urge parents to visit these centres for assistance," says Bodibe.
