Nzimande admits tough Metsimaholo coalition decision ahead for SACP
The South African Communist Party (SACP) has refuted suggestions that it might enter into a coalition agreement with the Democratic Alliance (DA) or Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the Metstimaholo Municipality.
Last week’s by-election failed to provide an outright winner. This means the political parties would either need to enter into a coalition, or the election would have to be re-run.
The African National Congress won the most seats, but failed to achieve an outright majority.

"We can’t go into an alliance with the Democratic Alliance as the SACP, the two formations have irreconciable differences,” said SACP Secretary General Blade Nzimande.
"At the same time we have to deal with the reality that, many of the people who voted for us did not want us to go into an alliance with the ANC, but truth of the matter is that we are in an alliance with the ANC".

Nzimande said they will be engaging the community on the way forward.
"We have said to our comrades, go and take these issues back to the community and engage them".
The by-election was the first time SACP had independently contested elections since 1994.
It managed to secure three council seats.
