SACP: ANC’s scandals will come back to haunt it

The South African Communist Party believes the ANC's inability to deal effectively with the scandals around the Gupta family will come back to haunt it.

The SACP's leadership is meeting in Kempton Park this weekend.

The SACP will be discussing the roadmap that will ultimately see it contesting elections alone.

Ahead of the ANC's elective conference in December the communist party maintains it will not back any faction

"Of course we have interest on who the leader becomes in the ANC in that, it should be a leader who is incorruptible. A leader that respects the alliance, a leader that respects our revolution and the people of South Africa. Not a self-serving leader who will use state institutions to enrich themselves and their families," says deputy general secretary Solly Mapaila.

Mapaila says the ANC continues to discipline soft targets within the party instead of dealing with the Gupta leaks.

Mapaila adds that the SACP's defence of the ANC during the motion of no confidence, should not be seen as support for President Jacob Zuma.

"Zuma has surrounded himself with extremely court individuals including the Guptas who are doing all sorts of wrong things. He has reached a stage of being indefensible."
