Old Mutual employee tests positive for coronavirus

Old Mutual has confirmed that one of its employees has tested positive for coronavirus after returning from a trip overseas.

The company’s Tabby Tsengiwe says the employee had not been in contact with any staff or clients before entering self-quarantine, as per their international travel policy.


“In line with the protocols provided around COVID 19, Old Mutual had put its measures in place advising all employees who had travelled overseas not to come to work, but rather self-quarantine and conduct necessary medical tests to provide medical confirmation of asymptomatic before returning to the workplace.”

The student recently came into contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19. "The student is being monitored closely and has not displayed any symptoms of COVID-19.

The employee is undergoing medical treatment at an undisclosed location and would only return to the office after 21 days.


"Old Mutual followed the protocols prescribed by the government and they tracked all the individuals who met with the Old Mutual employee outside of the workplace to arrange their self-quarantine. The employee is currently undergoing the necessary medical treatment,” adds Tsengiwe.


Health Minister Zweli Mkhize confirmed on Friday that South Africa now has a total of 24 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
