One dead in separate shack fires in Joburg
One person died and more than 10 homes were destroyed in two separate fires in George Goch and Kaya Sands in Johannesburg on Sunday.
Johannesburg emergency services spokesperson Xolile Khumalo said three homes went up in flames in George Goch.
One man died from burn wounds sustained during the fire.
"The George Goch incident was reported at 23:15 where three shacks had caught fire. After extinguishing the fire, the EMS firefighters discovered a body of an adult male who succumbed to death due to fire wounds," said Khumalo.
In a separate incident in Kaya Sands, 10 shacks were completely gutted by the fire.
"One person suffered fire wounds and was rushed to hospital,” Khumalo said.
The cause of the two fires is not known.
