One killed in Soweto house fire

Johannesburg emergency services have confirmed the death of one person in a fire at a house at Emndeni in Soweto

The fire broke out on Thursday afternoon.
The 82-year-old man died as a result of smoke inhalation.
Emergency services spokesperson Xolile Khumalo says the cause of the fire is unknown.
"EMS Firefighters responded to a fire incident call. Upon arrival, they found a four-room house on fire, and the community was assisting with extinguishing the fire.
"No other casualties were reported during this incident. Residents of Johannesburg lose their lives and property during winter due to fire incidents. Some of these incidents can be avoided by ensuring that electrical appliances and lighting sources are attended to.”
