The structure collapsed on Friday morning at Orange Farm extension 3.

Joburg EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says another person was treated for injuries and later transported to Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in Soweto for further medical care.

"An abandoned building collapsed into two men. One was treated with injuries and transported to the hospital for further medical care. The other patient, unfortunately, lost his life when this building collapsed on him. He was later confirmed dead on the scene by Gauteng Emergency Medical Services paramedics.

The men were believed to have been busy removing building materials when the building collapsed on them.

“We are urging our residents to stay away from this abandoned building and try to refrain from removing this material to prevent incidents like this one," says Mulaudzi.

In a separate incident, firefighters attended to another blaze at a hijacked building in the Johannesburg CBD.
