One of Sindiso Magaqa's alleged killers identified
Updated | By Lethiwe Mdluli
The Hawks say one of the men linked to the shooting of uMzimkhulu councillor, Sindiso Magaqa and two of his colleagues was killed in a shootout with police on the N2 near Harding earlier this month.
The shooting followed a foiled cash-in-transit heist.
Police have identified him as 38-year-old Jabulani Mdunge, as they move to clarify reports that a suspect has been arrested and due in court in connection with Magaqa's shooting.
Hawks spokesperson, Hangwani Mulaudzi says the man was identified after profiling those involved in the N2 gun battle.
"There is no arrest, the person whom we believe formed part and parcel of the shooting of Mr Magaqa, we have managed to link this person to that shooting after he was involved in a shootout with the police. One of those who died in that shooting was found that he could have links and we have now managed to link him to that case and hence this confusion. We are still looking for the second suspect but this one has now been eliminated," he said.
Magaqa, who was a former ANC Youth League Secretary General, died in hospital two weeks ago after nearly two months since the July shooting.
