Operation Vooma ramps up vaccinations as new Covid-19 cases dip

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) says 1 306 new Covid-19 cases have been recorded since its last report on Friday.
This brings the total number of cases in the country to 2,905,613.
The increase represents a 4.0% positivity rate.
The majority of new cases are from the Western Cape (22%), followed by KwaZulu-Natal (18%) and Gauteng (14%).
A further 48 Covid-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 87,753.
This weekend also saw the launch of Operation Vooma, aimed at encouraging more South Africans to vaccinate as the turn-out continues to slump.
On Saturday, 106 722 vaccines were administered.
