The metro finally agreed to implement load shedding as required by Eskom, but further negotiations yielded positive results for large power users.

Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini says Consol Glass and PSG are among the big businesses exempt from stage 1 and 2 load shedding.

"City of Ekurhuleni held a meeting with Eskom on Thursday, 3 June 2021 to reach an agreement on the excluding of large power users and National Key Points from stage 1 and 2 load shedding where the network configuration allows for it," says Dlamini.

National key point, OR Tambo International Airport, will also keep its lights on during stage 1 and 2.

"Switching configurations only allow for a small number of large power users to be excluded at this point in time. The City will engage in further discussions with Eskom in future to allow for more industrial areas to be excluded on both stage 1 and 2 load shedding.

"The City’s load shedding schedule up to stage 8 has been revised to accommodate changes made as agreed with Eskom."

Meanwhile, Eskom will continue to roll out power cuts until Sunday.
