Oscar Pistorius parole review under way
Updated | By ANA
The Department of Correctional Services confirmed Friday that the Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Supervision and Parole Board was sitting to “reconsider Oscar Pistorius’ possible release on parole.
On Monday the parole review board referred the parole decision back to the original parole panel, stating that Pistorius should be “subjected to psychotherapy” as part of his parole conditions.
The Friday seating follows the setting aside of the earlier decision to place Oscar Pistorius under correctional supervision from 21 August 2015.
However, before Pistorius was released the Minister of Justice and Correctional Supervision Michael Masutha requested a review on the grounds that the decision was taken prematurely and contrary to the Correctional Services Act.
Pistorius’s family has complained about what they said was the unfair treatment meted out to the fallen athletics star, who was jailed for killing his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day in 2013.
Spokesperson of Correctional Services Manelisi Wolela said: “The autonomous CSPB of Kgosi Mampuru II, is expected to consider all issues raised by the Parole Review Board and make a decision, which will be communicated accordingly. We cannot speculate or predict the outcomes of today’s meeting of the parole board”.
