Outa: Govt needs to acknowledge e-tolls have failed
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) says the time has come for government to finally acknowledge that Gauteng’s e-tolling system is a failed scheme.
The organisation made the comments ahead of Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana’s maiden Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement on Thursday.
The minister could finally make some sort of pronouncement on the unpopular system, which has been largely ignored by Gauteng motorists.
Outa’s Stephanie Fick says it would make them happy to finally see the back of e-tolls.

“We would be extremely elated if the government eventually comes to the party to say this is a failed scheme and we acknowledge that and say let us try to use the gantries for other things.”
Gondongwana’s mid-term budget speech is set to start at 2pm on Thursday.
