Over 18 000 new Covid-19 cases, more than 200 new deaths in KZN

The number of new Covid-19 cases recorded in the country has shown an increase of 18 503 infections in just 24 hours.

The latest report by Health Minister, Zweli Mkhie, shows the increase in the number of new cases has brought the cumulative number of infections to 1 296 806 since the start of the pandemic last year.
Furthermore, the number of fatalities in the country continues to increase significantly, with 712 new related deaths recorded in just one day.
Kwa-Zulu Natal has recorded a concerning 232 new deaths, the Western Cape reported 162 fatalities, while Gauteng recorded 114 deaths.

These provinces are followed by the Eastern Cape at 97 deaths, while the North West recorded 50 fatalities and the Free State has reported an increase of 21 deaths.
In the Northern Cape, a further 15 people succumbed to the virus, while Limpopo recorded 11 deaths and Mpumalanga only accounted for 10 of the total fatalities.
Since the start of the beginning in March 2020, the country has recorded 35 852 Covid-19 related deaths.
The recovery rate continues to stand firmly at 80.9%.
