Over 5000 Covid-19 patients admitted in Gauteng hospitals
Over 5000 people who have tested positive for Covid-19 in Gauteng have been admitted in hospital with 716 of them in intensive care.
This after the province surpassed the Western Cape to become the epicenter of the country's Coronavirus pandemic with 117895 cases.
Health MEC, Bandile Masuku told reporters on Friday that the province was experiencing a Covid-19 storm.
"As we speak as of today we have got 5748 patients and 700 patients that are in ICU but 285 that are on ventilators," said Masuku.

"Now we have got to a point where we know somebody who has passed on or tested positive with of Covid. The reality is that we are now within the storm."
The province has a target of 1575 additional hospital beds which are expected to be available by the end of the month.
Masuku says 45 743 recoveries are encouraging, but public education on the virus needs to continue.
He said the testing approach has been changed to focus on those who are symptomatic and high-risk workers including healthcare workers, police, soldiers, and teachers.
