Over 600kg of cocaine recovered at Durban harbour

The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crimes team have recovered cocaine weighing 600 kilograms in containers at the Durban Harbour in KwaZulu-Natal.
The drugs have an estimated street value of R240 million.
Hawks spokesperson, Nomthandazo Mbambo, says the drugs were recovered last Thursday.
“The team received information about the MSC vessel that was sailing from South America to South Africa transporting containers with wooden flooring boards which had cocaine concealed within the consignment.
On arrival, the container was searched. It was discovered that between the boards, there were large black sports bags, each with bricks of cocaine,” says Mbambo.
Mbambo says no arrests have been made at this stage pending the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, Mbambo says Hawks' National Head Godfrey Lebeya has now appointed a team to handle the investigation into the drugs stolen in a burglary incident.
Cocaine with an estimated street value of R200 million was stolen from the Hawks' offices in Port Shepstone a month ago.
