Parents delay placement of remaining pupils: Lesufi
Updated | By Slindelo Masikane
The Gauteng education department says it's now up to parents to ensure their child has secured placement at a school.

According to the department there are still over 3000 children awaiting placement out of the 19 000 applications received in January.
Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi says the delay is due to parents being particular about which school their child attends.

"We can place all learners by Friday, but it's parental choice now. Parents want their children at a specific school. If that school is already full, parents feel they cannot accept our offer," Lesufi says.
Panyaza says it has been a difficult process, but they have learned a lot.
"We are quite convinced that our programme of building or opening a new school every month will assist us to arrest the situation. We've got almost seven new schools that are ready to be officially opened in the province," he explains.
