Parents protest over placements at Hoërskool Akasia
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Parents at Hoërskool Akasia in the north of Pretoria embarked on a protest over the placements of pupils on Wednesday morning.

A few parents blocked the entrance to the school, demanding the placement of their children, and preventing pupils from entering the grounds.
Spokesperson for the Gauteng Department of Education Steve Mabona says police were called to the scene and managed to defuse the situation.
“The police were called to defuse the situation and learners and staff members were subsequently allowed access into the school. Accordingly, parent representatives and members of the EFF met with the principal and SGB.

“The school has reached capacity, without promising they undertook to check if they can still accommodate some learners. However, it must be indicated that they have already in January 2021 introduced a new grade 8 class to assist to manage the capacity challenge experienced in the area.”
The Department of Basic Education has also called on the members of the community to not disrupt schooling.
