Parks Tau set to return as Gauteng MPL resigns

African National Congress (ANC) MPL Dumisani Dakile has resigned from the provincial legislature to pave the way for the return of Parks Tau.

Dakile, who was the chairperson of the roads and transport committee in the legislature, handed in his resignation on Monday.

The ANC in the province needed to make space for Tau following his appointment as MEC by Gauteng premier David Makhura during his cabinet reshuffle last week.

Tau had been serving as deputy minister of co-operative governance and traditional affairs since May 2019.

“The ANC in Gauteng has concluded it's own internal processes, which has led to comrade Dumisani Dakile resigning as a member of the provincial legislature,” says the ANC Gauteng’s spokesperson Bones Modise.

“Comrade Dumisani Dakile will now be replaced by Comrade Parks Tau and therefore Parks upon replacing Dumisani, he will then be sworn in as the new MEC in the province.

“Those processes of filling that vacancy in the provincial government will be dealt with as soon comrade Tau has now been sworn in as a member of the provincial legislature.”

The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in Gauteng last week said that it will not allow its members to make way for elders when Gauteng Premier David Makhura replaced axed Bandile Masuku.

“For the record, the official stance of the ANC in Gauteng is that comrade Dumisani Dakile has resigned as a member of the provincial legislature. The Youth League and its utterances are of the youth league, they know what they said, and they know why they said what they said,” said Modise.

“They have conducted number of interviews in relation to what they have said and the statement they could have released. On the ANC part, we have not said anything as to who has resigned and who has not resigned, and who has alleged to have resigned.

“Officially as I speak to you now, comrade Dumisani has resigned.”
