Parly: Engaging Mkhwebane claims 'insensitive' to bereaved Joemat-Pettersson family

Parliament says entertaining the allegations of bribery by suspended public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane would show lack of respect to the family of late ANC MP Tina Joemat-Pettersson.
Mkhwebane held a press briefing in Sandton on Tuesday where she accused Joemat-Pettersson, Section 194 inquiry chairperson Richard Dyantyi and the ANC’s chief whip Pemmy Majodina of trying to extort R600 000 from her husband.
Parliamentary spokesperson Moloto Mothapo said the legislature will not engage in public mudslinging on the matter since the subject is under investigation by the Hawks and Parliament.
"Parliament has received several media invitations to react to the claims made by suspended public protector Adv Busisiwe Mkhwebane during her media conference this afternoon.
"Engaging in such would be fruitless, counterproductive, and undermine the truth-seeking efforts of these institutions."
"Furthermore, engaging will show lack of sensitivity and respect to the bereaved family who are still coming to terms with the passing-on of Ms Tina Joemat-Pettersson," said Mothapo.
