Suspended public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has made public the audio recordings which she claims implicate three senior ANC MPs in extortion and bribery.
She held a press briefing in Sandton on Tuesday at the Capital on the Park Hotel.
Mkhwebane has accused the late Tina Joemat-Pettersson, Section 194 inquiry chairperson David Dyanti and the ANC’s chief whip Pemmy Majodina of trying to extort R600 000 from her husband.
She says that Joemat-Pettersson approached her husband during the inquiry into her fitness to hold office and requested his cell phone number.
“Following this Mrs Joemat-Pettersson invited my husband to two separate physical meetings both heals at the Oceans Basket restaurant at OR Tambo International Airport. At these meetings she solicited a believe of approximately R600 000 for herself, Mr Dyanti and Mrs Majodina," Mkhwebane said.
“My husband pretended to play along and even negotiated the price to be set at R150 000 instead of R200 000 each.”
Mkhwebane has also claimed that she is in possession of two audio recordings and more than 90 WhatsApp messages exchanged between Skhosana and Joemat-Pettersson.
The recordings have since been handed to the police and the Hawks for further investigations.
Joematt-Pettersson passed away last week, while Dyantyi and Majodina have denied any wrongdoing.
