Updated | By OFM
A Port Elizabeth serial rapist has
been sentenced to five life terms after being convicted on 12 counts of rape in
the city's high court.
Thirty-one-year-old Vusumzi Snyman was also sentenced on Wednesday morning to an additional 53 years for robbery and for pointing a firearm.
He was convicted on Monday for the crimes, which occurred from 2011 to October of 2014.
Judge Jannie Eksteen said during sentencing that Snyman showed no remorse for his actions and did not offer any apology to his victims.
He added that even though Snyman pleaded guilty to the charges it could not be considered a mitigating factor.
Eksteen says Snyman knew that the evidence against him was too overwhelming
Police spokesperson Andre Beetge believes the sentence fits the crime.
