Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo says the search, involving members of the K9 unit, Crime Prevention, members of the CPF as well as the farm watch is currently underway.

Mojapelo says according to preliminary information, 61 year-old Emmerentia Killian Jacobs saw three suspects outside the house on a smallholding in the Leeupoort Holiday Reserve outside Rooiberg when she woke up at approximately 3.00am to get a glass of water.

Mojapelo says the suspects then gained entry into the house by breaking a window with a brick.

"The woman alerted her husband and locked herself in the bathroom from where she summoned help from neighbours with her cell phone," says Mojapelo.

Mojapelo says 62 year-old Daniel Killian Jacobs was found dead in the bedroom with a gunshot wound to the left upper chest when a neighbour arrived at the scene.

"The suspects fled on foot after taking a handbag belonging to the woman," says Mojapelo.
