Permanent leadership factions will only hurt ANC - Mokonyane
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
ANC NEC member Nomvula Mokonyane says the new leadership of the ANC has a duty to unite the party.
Mokonyane, who has been nominated for the position of first deputy secretary-general, was speaking on the sidelines of the ANC's national conference at Nasrec on Sunday.
She said those elected into positions of power at conference must not use it to punish their political opponents.
“New leadership should ensure that we do not use disciplinary measures to punish those that we do not agree with, but always appreciate that the strength of the ANC history has been on the diversity of its membership.
“Whoever is elected here must go into a retreat and reflected how that collective is constituted, and begin to iron out the rules of relating to one another.
“There can’t be a permanent factionalised leadership. It hurts the movement and hurts the people of South Africa," she said.
Delegates are voting for top seven leaders on Sunday.
