Petrol price set to decrease in December
Updated | By Karabo Tebele
A Christmas present could be in store for petrol users as fuel prices for December are set to decrease.
This according to the Automobile Association, which was commenting on unaudited month-end fuel price released by the Central Energy Fund.
AA spokesperson Layton Beard says despite relief for petrol, diesel and paraffin users might feel the pinch as it is expected to increase.
“Depending on the fuel you use, you will either see an increase or decrease in your fuel bill in December. The AA is forecasting a 27 cents litre drop in the price of petrol but an increase of 13 cents a litre in diesel when prices are officially adjusted next Wednesday.
“Paraffin will see the biggest climb with an expected increase of 22 cents a litre."
Beard says the strong performance of the rand against US dollar has provided relief for petrol users.
“Well, the rand has performed well against the US dollar in November and it has provided relief for petrol users. International oil prices spiked again just four months in and offsetting the gains by the local currency even thou the rand fell as low as R15.15 to the US Dollar, its lowest level since February.
“If the current strong showing of the rand continues, there could be continued price stability and improved fuel prices as we enter 2021.”
