Phalatse to announce steps to ‘bolster’ Joburg flood response
Updated | By Makhosazane Twala
Johannesburg Mayor Mpho Phalatse will on Saturday announce plans to bolster the city’s response to incidents of flooding.
At the same time Phalatse is also expected to give an overview of the work already done in the wake of the destructive flooding in Soweto and the west of Joburg at the start of December.
Last week, minority parties in the city called on Phalatse to declare the flood-damaged areas a disaster.
Mayoral spokesperson Mabine Seabe says the mayor will also detail the costs of the damage to city infrastructure.
The executive mayor will also announce steps taken to better coordinate and resource the city’s response to the ongoing emergency.”
