[PICS]: Ekurhuleni residents concerned over lack of toilets
Updated | By Neo Motloung
Residents of Madelafuka informal settlement in Tembisa are unhappy with the chemical toilets in the area.
On Wednesday, Ekurhuleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina rubbished allegations that a R1.9 billion tender to install chemical toilets was part of a get-rich-quick scheme.
But resident Mbuyisela Funana says there are not enough toilets in the informal settlement. Around 20 people are forced to share one toilet.

“There was supposed to be 1026 toilets here, but we’ve got 513, about 30 people are using one toilet here, the issue of toilets is big.”
He adds that the issue is compounded by a lack of lighting, which makes it unsafe for women to use the facilities at night.
The Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Kate Lorimer says the party will call for an audit to establish how many toilets were delivered.
