IN PICTURES: All eyes on Moses Mabhida Stadium for Zulu King's certificate handover
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
Thousands of people from South Africa's various provinces and neighbouring countries started gathering in Durban's Moses Mabhida Stadium where President Cyril Ramaphosa will officially hand over a certificate of recognition to King Misuzulu KaZwelithini.
The king has already been officially installed on the throne, however, the certificate from the government signifies his legitimacy as the reigning monarch of the AmaZulu nation.
The Zulu nation last witnessed such a significant event over 50 years ago, when the late King Goodwill Zwelithini ascended to the throne.
He died in March last year at age 72 after 50 years on the throne, leaving behind his six wives and at least 28 children.
His passing was followed by court battles over the succession of the throne and his estate.
But the High Court in Pietermaritzburg cleared Misuzulu to be crowned the next Zulu king.
Zulu regiments known as Amabutho descended from all over the province of KZN and Gauteng for the nation's significant event.
Dignitaries expected at the event include Archbishop Thabo Makgoba, KZN premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube, His Majesty King Mswati III of eSwatini, COGTA minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Traditional Prime Minister of the Zulu Nation Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi and former presidents Jacob Zuma and Thabo Mbeki.
