PHOTOS: Autopax buses attacked in Mamelodi
Updated | By Olivia Phalaetsile
Tshwane Metro Police escorted Autopax buses back to the depot in Mamelodi after clashes with taxi owners on Thursday.
Autopax buses took over Putco routes after the latter's decision not to renew contracts on certain routes, citing loss of income as one of its reasons.
Putco cancelled operations in the Tshwane, Ekurhuleni and Sedibeng municipalities at the end of June.
Mamelodi taxi owners are demanding answers about how Autopax was awarded the contract.
Early on Thursday morning, chaos broke out in Mamelodi where buses were stoned despite discussions between taxi owners and the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport.
Police are currently monitoring the situation.
