Officials from the City of Johannesburg have begun investigations into the cause of a fire which erupted at a substation in Alexandra, north of the city, on Tuesday.
Technicians and operators have been sent to the scene to determine the extent of the damage as well as the cause of the fire.
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said: “One of the things that we have realised is that the lock into the substation was broken so it means that somebody vandalised, and we don’t know how the fire was started.”
It is the same substation which caught fire two weeks ago, also plunging most of Alexandra into darkness.
The fire has subsequently been contained has not spread to the surrounding residential area.
Foul play is suspected but is yet to be substantiated by officials.
