[PICTURES]: Suspected rhino horn smuggler nabbed at airport
A 38-year-old man is expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrates Court on Thursday after he was found in possession of illegal rhino horns.
Hawks spokesperson Ndivhuwo Mulamu says the suspect was arrested at the OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesday following a tip-off.
"We were following on information we received over the weekend regarding the illegal dealings of rhino horns. That’s when we started with our investigations which led to the arrest of the suspect.”
The suspect was reportedly travelling to the United Arab Emirates.
Twenty rhino horns, weighing about 30kg, were found stashed inside the suspect’s luggage.
He is facing several charges, including the illegal possession of rhino horns.
