Pikitup to restore waste collection services
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
The City of Johannesburg has resolved the issues with the Pikitup waste collection fleet contract.
MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services, Nico de Jager, says the city will continue with the existing service provider.
"Until the new contract can be signed and agreed to, as it has to go out on tender," says De Jager.
For several says Pikitup has been operating on limited fleets, leaving parts of Joburg without waste collecting services.
De Jager says Pikitup staff will work overtime this coming weekend to ensure that all waste is collected in the city.
"We will start immediately. The fleet was never pulled out of the depot. The fleet is ready to run."
