Ngcobo has been being charged with the murder of his wife, Catherine Modisane, at a bed and breakfast in Yeoville on New Year’s Eve.

Ngcobo is also facing a charge of defeating the ends of justice.

Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Gauteng, Phindi Mjonondwane, says the court ruled that the Ngcobo didn't provide enough evidence to permit his release on bail.

"We are therefore in agreement with the court as the NPA, as we have argued during the bail application proceedings that Mr Thulani Ngcobo also faces charges of defeating the ends of justice. The state alleges that he tried to conceal evidence at the crime scene and therefore there was likelihood that if released on bail he will interfere with ongoing investigations."

Mjonondwane says the artist also failed to produce a fixed address.

"Therefore the likelihood the evasion of trial was existent in this matter."

Ngcobo will be back in court on April 12.
