Placing Tshwane under administration ‘thuggish behaviour’, says Msimanga

Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng caucus leader Solly Msimanga has lashed out at the move by MEC for Human Settlements and Cooperative Government Lebogang Maile to place Tshwane under administration.

Maile announced on Friday that the mayor-less capital city will be place under administration amid various allegations of mismanagement and complaints over a lack of service delivery.

But Msimanga believes Maile has got his facts wrong.

"What you see in Tshwane is nothing more than thuggish behaviour.

"If you read Chapter 6 of the Constitution, more specifically 139, you will realise that what Lebogang Maile is doing is factually incorrect," he said.

The DA has been dealt several blows since the departure of former leader Mmusi Maimane in November.

The party has lost its mayors in both Johannesburg and Tshwane.

African National Congress (ANC) regional chairperson Geoff Makhubo has been installed as new Joburg mayor, while Tshwane is without a mayor and a speaker.
