Gauteng police have arrested a man for vandalising the statue of former President Nelson Mandela at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
The video of the naked protestor carrying a machete has gone viral on social media.
The man is said to have been protesting against load shedding and demanded that President Cyril Ramaphosa come and listen to his grievances.
Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says the man was apprehended on Wednesday morning.
"The person was taken to the medical care centre for a medical examination. An inquiry will be opened at the nearest police station for investigation."
The man was later clothed and taken away from the seat of government by police.
Frans Sello waga Machate said the man is protesting for service delivery and against loadshedding. He says that he wants the president to come receive his complaints in person @ScrollaAfrica
