Police arrest scores more for school robberies

Police in Gauteng have arrested another 25 suspects in connection with the spate of burglaries at schools across the province.
This brings the total suspects nabbed during the onset of the lockdown to 66.
According to the Gauteng Department of Education, 67 schools have been broken into and robbed, vandalized and even set alight since the nationwide coronavirus lockdown came into place on 26 March.
Provincial Police spokesperson, Mavela Masondo, says in the latest incident, two suspects were arrested with the help of the community members in Orlando, Soweto, in the south of Johannesburg.
"Ten more suspects were arrested in Johannesburg, including Soweto, nine in Tshwane and the other six were arrested in Ekurhuleni, Sedibeng and West Rand," says Masondo.

Earlier in the month, the department confirmed that 41 suspects had been arrested for cases relating to the burglaries and the torching of schools. The department's spokesperson Steve Mabona says another five suspects have been arrested for separate burglaries at schools in Katlehong and Sebokeng.
