Updated | By Nathan Daniels
The mother of a child who was thrown off the roof of a shack in Port Elizabeth has been released after police took her in for questioning.
Photos have emerged showing the father tossing the baby off a roof in the Joe Slovo informal settlement in an apparent bid to save his illegally-erected shack.
The baby girl emerged unscathed after a police officer caught her before she hit the ground.

According to police spokesperson, Andre Beetge, the father will face a charge of attempted murder.
"We took the mother as well as the father and the child to the police station to further investigate and we let our detectives question the mother and it was determined that the mother will not be charged."
Social workers have also been roped in to investigate.
Police say the 35-year-old mother not completely off the hook.
"Police are still investigating. Should more transpire in the process of the investigation, and charges be brought against the mother as well - she will be summoned to go to court."
The father is set to appear in the New Brighton Magistrate's Court on Monday.
