Provincial police spokesperson, Tembinkosi Kinana, was briefing the media at the dam on Tuesday after 19 live mortar bombs were discovered in the dam over the past few days.

The first mortars were found by people fishing in the dam last week, prompting police to warn people to stay away from the area while they conducted their investigation.

“We cannot say with certainty that we have cleared the place of all the mortar bombs. All I can say is that we are continuing with our investigations, we will from time to time visit this place to make sure it is cleared of these devices we have found in this place,” says Kinana.

Investigations into the origins of the mortar bombs are underway.

“We cannot at this stage make any speculations… the investigation will answer part of that question,” says Kinana.
