Gauteng police have arrested six gunmen who were on their way to commit an armed robbery in Sandton.
The interception happened on the M1 south near the Marlboro off-ramp on Sunday.
The suspects were travelling in a courier bakkie and a private Toyota bakkie.
Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says one of the suspects is an employee at the courier company.
"The suspects were found in possession of two rifles and three pistols loaded with live rounds of ammunition.
"The firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing to determine if they were not used in the commission of other crimes and the suspects will be profiled to establish if they are not wanted for committing other crimes."
They are expected to appear in court on charges of conspiracy to commit robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
