Police hunt Umlazi gunmen

Police are hunting for the gunmen who stormed an Umlazi house at the weekend and shot dead four people.
Police spokesman Colonel Jay Naicker said on Monday that the motive for the shooting in Durban’s southern township of Umlazi on Saturday was unknown.
He said five men were in the house in P-Section when an unknown number of gunmen stormed the residence.
Three of the five men at the house died at the scene of the shooting. The other two men were taken to hospital, where one was declared dead on arrival.
Naicker said it was unclear exactly how many gunmen were involved in the attack, but that police had recovered 11 pistol shell casings from the scene.
KwaZulu-Natal safety and security MEC Willies Mchunu condemned the shooting and urged anyone with information to help the police in finding the gunmen and those behind the attack.
“We strongly condemn these callous murders. I am extremely taken aback that four people have been murdered in such a cruel manner,” he said. -ANA
