The police's Sam Tselanyane says the incident occurred on Saturday night as the family was having a braai.

"The five suspects, armed with firearms, went into the house and they instructed them to lie down," says Tselanyane.

Tselanyane says the 8 people in the house were tied up and kicked and slapped.

The suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

"We haven't yet arrested anyone and our investigation is continuing."

Tselanyane says they do not believe the family was specifically targeted in this attack and that it was rather pure criminality that led to the robber.

Grain SA declined to comment, saying it was a private family matter.

The Matthews could not be contacted as their phones had been stolen in the incident.
